Recent WTO rulings against US dolphin-safe tuna and meat Country of Origin Labelling illustrate why free trade agreements threaten our ability to pass laws that inform and protect consumers, animals, the environment, and other vital public interest concerns. Understanding the damage that the WTO has done to public interest regulation is critical to the fight against Obama's new trade deals -- TPP, TTIP, and TISA. At the same time, activists must continue to resist the WTO itself.
Towards this end, the National TPP Team will host Deborah James, Directory of International Programs for the Center for Economic and Policy Research.
Deborah's presentation will include:
- A brief overview of the history, objectives, mechanics, and resistance to the WTO (this will follow on a call a week earlier where we will discuss the history of GATT and its evolution into WTO.
